MIKE

How long have you been riding?

I like that question. You know if you ask some people, they say “oh I’ve been riding for 30 years”? But I’m like, yeah you went to Starbucks and back once a month. I’ve been riding since 2011. It’s been almost 90% motorcycle riding, these past two years have been 100% motorcycle commuting. I’ve put twelve thousand miles down.

What kind of motorcycle do you ride?

I have a 2017 Kawasaki z650. It’s like a naked bike, or a standard bike since they took the fairings off.

What is your dream motorcycle?

My dream motorcycle? Well, actually there’s a motorcycle that’s only sold in Japan. It’s a Honda VFR400r. It’s a v4 motorcycle, displaces 399cc’s so it sounds really great and it’s power I could use everywhere.

Describe the moment you got hooked on riding.

The moment I was hooked riding, was when I was taking the class to learn how to ride a motorcycle because my girlfriend wanted to get a scooter and I knew we needed to get motorcycle licenses to ride the scooter. So I said, “I’ll take this stupid class with you” and I took the stupid class. I hated motorcyclists, I hated motorcycles. I thought they were stupid, beforehand. I ended up loving it so much, I bought a motorcycle 5 days later for $800 bucks in Alta Dena. I did. I bought a used 250 off Craigslist and it taught me a lot of things, including how to work on bikes. I hated motorcycles and now I’m here.

Anything else you’d like to add?

I’ve been racing cars since 2006 with SCCA and I’ve been involved with the LA region, one of the top 3 in the nation. I’ve been teaching there since 2008. It’s a lot of fun coming to a place like AMO is an investment in your safety and an investment in your future. So yeah, never stop learning kids.
